Synopsis
The FPC (Free People’s Corporation) has total global rule, imposing their capitalist principles on everything from employment to production to the flow of information. With the remainder of the world’s wealth funnelled to the already-rich, the working class is forced to the streets, dependent on highly addictive Attentrix pills to keep their productivity high enough to earn a living.
When working-class Violet Freeman witnesses a fellow Attentrix user metamorphose into a horrifying insectoid in the streets and nobody else seems to notice, it becomes clear to her just how wrong things are. Soon she’s entangled with deeply enigmatic Mercy and the Defiance, an off-grid rebellion to the FPC’s brutal rule, learning about queer love, government insurgence, and more.
