The Problem
Entertainment site Collider relies on its writers to produce thoughtful, relevant, and compelling articles. As a contributor, it was my job to produce timely and entertaining list-based articles, infusing personality into each piece.
The Process
Review source material – Each article begins with an idea. While some of my article concepts were already living in my head, others required watching (and re-watching) TV shows and movies in search of a hot new take.
Sketch out the concept – With an idea in mind, I started a Google Doc, making bullets to fill out the article body.
Write a first draft – Sticking to Collider’s brand guidelines, I developed my concept skeleton into a complete article. Then, I stepped away from the page.
Ruthlessly rewrite – After a brief break away from my draft, I returned to edit. Once my copy and images were finalized, it was on to publication.
Create a feature image – With the final draft in hand, I used GIMP to create an eye-catching feature image.
Migrate the content for publication – Then, I transferred my article from Google Docs to Collider’s homegrown CMS, optimizing keywords, links, and images for SEO. After a final editorial review, my article was up on the site for all to see.
